Doctor Our doctors on Gum Disease Treatment

We come in here. We check your gum. Gum disease not only involves the soft tissue, but it also involves the hard bony tissue that holds your teeth in place. So it's very important. If you lose enough bone, you're going to lose teeth. We're going to try to go over everything. We can do the special cleanings that it takes, get you on special programs using special devices that help keep your teeth and gums in great condition again, so we can hopefully cure that gum disease and keep you on a good path to dental health.

In addition to stopping the disease in its early stages, our deep cleaning treatment will:

  • Restore the healthy pink appearance of your gums and keep them from receding
  • Potentially lower your risk of conditions associated with gum disease, including diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease
  • Improve your overall oral health by removing bacteria that causes decay, disease, and infection
  • End symptoms like bad breath and bleeding gums so you can feel more confident in your smile

If you think you could have gum disease, call us today at 859-781-3090.

Stop Gum Disease in Its Tracks With a Deep Cleaning Treatment

While the eventual results of gum disease can be scary, treatment for it isn’t scary at all. Our doctors checks the condition of your gums during every dental exam. If he finds signs of disease, he’ll recommend a two-part deep cleaning treatment called scaling and root planing.

During the treatment we’ll remove disease-causing bacteria from above and below your gumline. We’ll also smooth your tooth roots to help eliminate “pockets” between your teeth and gums where bacteria can collect. To ensure your comfort, we’ll numb your mouth with local anesthesia. You can also receive dental sedation if you’d like.
Our doctors may also recommend increasing the frequency of dental cleanings in the next year or so to ensure gum disease doesn’t return.

Don’t Forget Gum Disease Prevention

Whether you’ve never had gum disease or you’ve had several recurrences, you can help prevent it with lifestyle changes. For instance, don’t smoke. Smokers are twice as likely as nonsmokers to get gum disease. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss daily, and visit us every six months for professional dental cleanings.
